Two sides who are experiencing one of their worst starts to a Ligue 1 season in recent memory will clash at the Allianz Riviera with Nice and Monaco to do battle as 15th meets 16th in the French top flight this Sunday.
Despite the negatives for Nice so far this campaign, they have still managed to win a few games and advance into the Europa Conference League playoffs too. They first lost to Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the playoffs first leg, but with a 2-0 victory at home in the second leg, Nice advanced through to the competition for this season with two goals in extra time.
What’s more, Nice managed to beat the 2020/21 champions Lille away from home last time out, with Andy Delort and Nicolas Pepe scoring a goal each in the game from the penalty spot. This can’t, however, move on from the fact they were hammered by Marseille 3-0 two weeks back.
As for Monaco, their results are even worse. The club managed to lose to Troyes 4-2 at the Stade Louis II during the week as they went 1-0 up and lost. At the same time, they have now conceded 11 goals, which is the most they have let in after the first five games in a Ligue 1 season in the past 10 years. The club will be somewhat pleased with a recent 1-1 draw with champions Paris Saint-Germain, however, as they snatched a point in Paris.
Nevertheless, both sides look a distant memory to their former selves, especially after two excellent campaigns each last season.
