Nice will be eager to get win number three of the season when they play hosts to 19th-placed Angers in Ligue 1 at the Allianz Riviera this Sunday afternoon with the club drawing once again in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
Nice were excellent at times last season and with one of the best defensive records in the 2021/22 campaign, they have continued to look solid at times at the back this time around. Nice do, however, boast of just two clean sheets this season after beating Ajaccio 1-0 away from home last time out and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Europa Conference League playoffs a month ago.
After such a fantastic transfer window, however, Nice still sit 12th in the league and there is a feeling this clash is a must-win if they are to get closer to the top six anytime soon with a gap of five points on fifth-placed Lyon.
Lucien Favre’s men have also struggled tremendously at home this season so far. Both Monaco and Marseille have beaten them within the past three weeks on their own patch, with four goals conceded and none scored of their own. In fact, with both the club’s victories coming away to Ajaccio and Lille, they are winless at home this season besides a 2-0 win against Tel-Aviv.
Angers, however, are in tatters this season. In fact, despite registering their first win of the season last time out against Montpellier, the club have conceded the second-most goals in the league this season with 18 let in. Angers have still netted eight times from seven Ligue 1 games, which is the most from those sitting in the bottom four.
