Match preview

Off the back of defeats each in Ligue 1 over the past weekend, Rennes and Strasbourg will clash at Roazhon Park with the home side aiming to get their first win in two games just as Strasbourg look to keep on building out of the relegation zone.

Rennes have gradually been slipping down the Ligue 1 table over the past few months and after losing to sixth-placed Lorient in the last outing, their spot in the European ranks has come under real threat.

In fact, the 2-1 loss to Lorient now leaves the club six points behind Marseille in third and ahead of Lorient by just two points – Flavien Tait scored in that game for Rennes last Friday night.

As for Strasbourg, they are in huge trouble right now with a place in 17th. Worse yet, Kevin Gameiro is set to miss this game with a suspension after his red card in the dying embers of the 2-1 defeat to Toulouse in which Gameiro scored the opening goal too.

Strasbourg now sit three points behind Brest with the fewest wins in Ligue 1 (2), but with them also having the same goals difference as Brest in 16th, there is still hope of them moving out of the danger zone.
