Toulouse will look to break into the top half of the Ligue 1 table this weekend when they play hosts to ninth-placed Montpellier back to winning ways after a narrow win against the winless Strasbourg on Sunday.
Montpellier were on a two-game losing run in the French top flight prior to their victory against Strasbourg, but it was not a convincing result by any means for Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men. Arnaud Nordin scored a goal in the first half and it looked like Strasbourg would snatch a point after Habib Diallo scored. Teji Tedy Savanier scored a 95th-minute penalty to win it, however.
Montpellier lost 2-1 to Lille in the two-game losing run, with Angers also defeating them 2-1 away from home just a week alter. Auxerre have also managed to beat them this season, as have Paris Saint-Germain in a 5-2 demolition in Paris.
Montpellier’s stunning 7-0 victory still lives fresh in the memory ahead of this one, with Ajaccio also falling to a 2-0 defeat to the club three weeks after the opening day victory over Troyes.
Toulouse will need to win here and hope other results go their way if they are to get into the top half of the table, as they are now two points adrift of Troyes in 10th and four behind ninth-placed Montpellier. Toulouse have won just once since defeating Troyes on matchday two, as they’ve now won only one game in the past six. A narrow victory against Reims was the difference in keep them further adrift of the drop zone, as Zakaria Aboukhlal scored the winner.
