Match preview

Two Canadian clubs meet in this cross-conference affair, both hoping to improve on their current positions.

Of the two, Club de Foot Montréal are higher up in the table with Wilfried Nancy’s side having won back-to-back games.

A week earlier, Montréal had won a seven-goal thriller in Cincinnati, with Đorđe Mihailović bagging a brace in a 4-3 victory at TQL Stadium.

So now, the club formally known as the Impact, are aiming to win three successive MLS games for the first time since July.

Vancouver Whitecaps meanwhile have still only won once this season, so are currently down in 13th in the Western Conference.

Vanni Sartini’s side were left frustrated last weekend as they were beaten 3-2 by Cascadia Cup rivals Portland Timbers at BC Place.

Cristian Dájome got them back into it before missing a penalty, with Ryan Gauld’s 96th minute spot-kick proving scant consolation.

A week earlier, the Caps had beaten Sporting Kansas City 1-0 in British Columbia, but were unable to build on that.

Here, in their first game of 2022 at Stade Saputo, will Montréal be too strong for their Canadian rivals?
