Match preview

Will Minnesota United pull clear of the chasing pack as they look to sow up a play-off place as quickly as possible?

Last weekend, the Loons were involved in an eight-goal thriller, drawing 4-4 with Portland Timbers at Allianz Field.

The lead changed hands four times in St. Paul with Franco Fragapane, Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Luis Amarilla all on target for the hosts.

Despite leading 3-1 at one stage, given that they then went 4-3 down, Adrian Heath’s team were satisfied with a share of the spoils.

This also extends Minnesota’s unbeaten streak to seven matches, winning five of them.

Colorado Rapids also come into this one following a goal-fest, with their’s even more memorable.

On Tuesday night, Robin Fraser’s men, extraordinarily, won 5-4 at Red Bull Arena, despite being 2-0 and then 3-1 down in the first half; the Rapids also trailed with just 13 minutes to go.

Diego Rubio, Keegan Rosenberry, Collen Warner, Michael Barrios and Dantouma Toure the scorers on a quite extraordinary night in New Jersey.

This is just the 22nd match in MLS history to have featured 9+ goals.

Colorado have though only won two of their last nine, so are down in tenth in the west.

Given the week both clubs have had, this one at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park should produce goals.
