Orlando City: U.S. Open Cup Finalists!

On Wednesday night, the Lions welcomed New York Red Bulls to Exploria Stadium for the biggest game of their eight-year history.

To say it wasn’t going well when RBNY broke the deadlock in first half stoppage time is an understatment.

Then, in the second half, Orlando were rampant with Mauricio Pereyra, Facundo Torres, Benji Michel and Araújo again all scoring to secure a 5-1 victory.

So, they’ll now host USL Championship club Sacramento Republic in the Open Cup Final on 7 September.

Back in MLS, Óscar Pareja’s side sit fifth in the east as they continue to be strong on multiple fronts.

The same cannot be said of D.C. United, who remain at the foot of the Eastern Conference following yet another defeat, this time at home to Club de Foot Montréal.

The Black-and-Red have only won one of their last 11, although that victory did come in Orlando at the start of this month.

Wayne Rooney is yet to take charge but, against the side he scored one of his most famous MLS goals, he’ll be hoping to oversee a victory.

Will Audi Field witness a rare thing these days, a home win?
