Match preview

Minnesota United’s form has deserted them at just the wrong time, but their play-off destiny is still in their own hands.

The Loons were beaten again last weekend, this time going down 2-0 at bottom of the table San Jose.

This means Minnesota have accumulated just one point from their last six matches, equaling the worst six-match period in the club’s entire history.

So, Adrian Heath’s side have gone from play-off dead certs to teetering on the brink.

They remain seventh, one point above RSL and two clear of Vancouver, needing to win to guarantee a post-season berth.

On the flip side, the Whitecaps know a victory could see them snatch a play-off place at Minnesota’s expense.

All of these have come at BC Place, beating LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and then, last weekend, Austin.

Ryan Gauld and Lucas Cavallini on target.

So, Vanni Sartini’s side need to win here to leap into the play-offs at the last; given that RSL face Portland, both can’t win.

This one at Allianz Field is massive, so who will be celebrating come full time in St. Paul?
