Who will be crowned the fourth Campeons Cup winners?

Back in 2018, the Liga MX club won the inaugural edition of this competition when Tigres UNAL defeated Toronto FC.

Since then through, the trophy has remained in the United States.

Atlanta United defeated Club América in 2019 before, 12 months ago, Columbus Crew were victorious against Cruz Azul.

Here, New York City FC will be looking to keep that streak going, although they come into this one in terrible form.

On Saturday, the reigning MLS Cup champions were beaten again, this time 1-0 by Charlotte.

NYCFC have now trailed in eight of their last nine MLS matches, despite only falling behind in three of the previous 15.

More importantly, Nick Cushing’s side have lost seven of their last nine, only beating Chicago Fire since 23 July.

Atlas meantime will feature in this final having won Liga MX’s Clausura title, beating Pachuca over two legs back in May.

This is just los Rojinegros’ third league title, picking up the Apertura in 2021 and the championship in 1951.

However, 14 games into the new season, Diego Cocca’s team are second bottom of the table, winless in seven games.

So, the Campeones Cup represents a welcome distraction for both, but who will lift the trophy aloft at Yankee Stadium?
