Match preview

No silverware is on the line in the Sunshine State, but this is a season-defining match for both on Decision Day.

Columbus Crew kick off in the seventh and final play-off place, with the only team who can usurp them, you guessed it, Orlando City.

It’s been a mixed week for the Crew, first beating New York Red Bulls 2-1 at home last weekend, in dramatic fashion.

Derrick Etienne Jr. coming off the bench to score in the 89th and 92nd minutes against his former club.

This is the first time ever the Black and Gold have won an MLS match when behind in the final minute.

Then on Wednesday night, Caleb Porter’s team looked like rubber stamping their post-season berth.

Nevertheless, the expansion club fought back and equalised in the 94th minute no less.

Columbus have now thrown away 11 points in stoppage time this season so, if they do miss out on the play-offs, they’ll only have themselves to blame.

Orlando City meanwhile have won the club’s first-ever silverware this year, namely the U.S. Open Cup, but do not want their campaign to come to an end here.

The Lions missed the chance to leap above the play-off line in midweek, hammered 4-1 by Florida rivals Inter Miami.

Óscar Pareja’s side have now lost four of their last five, form that has seen them slide down to eighth.

So, Orlando must win this one to be guaranteed a play-off place; a draw will do for Columbus.

A draw will actually see both sneak in, but only if Cincinnati are beaten by Wooden Spoon winners D.C. United, which is unlikely.

Thus, this is a simply huge game at Exploria Stadium, but who will be celebrating at full time?
