The race for the Premier League golden boot is one of the most hotly-contested events of the year, sorting the good players from the greats.

Harry Kane endured a stellar campaign last season to lift it for the third time – only Thierry Henry has won it more times – but faces an uphill task if he is to outscore some of his rivals following a slow start to the season.

Here 101 Great Goals looks at odds and tips for the 2021/22 Premier League golden boot, from which players are favourites to lift the treasured prize and who could run them close.

Golden boot favourites

Mo Salah is enjoying another incredible season in front of goal netting 20 in 29 league matches. However, the forward is currently going through a sticky patch having failed to score in three games. He has also seen his lead at the top of the rankings cut to just three goals with Heung-min Son closing in on him. Salah remains the favourite to win the award at 1/6.

Diogo Jota is the third top scorer having netted 15 goals this season. The Portuguese forward added to his tally over the weekend as he scored at the Etihad in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Man City. He is now 25/1 to win the Golden Boot and just five goals behind Salah.

Heung-min Son gave his Golden Boots hopes a major boost on Saturday as he scored a hat-trick against Aston Villa. The forward is up to 17 league goals for the season and has netted more times from open play than Salah. He is starting to hit form at just the right time for Spurs and with the likes of Kane and Kulusevski around him, his chances of winning the award are now very high. Following his stunning display at Villa Park, the South Korean is 6/1 to win the award for the first time.

Mohamed Salah Golden Boot

Golden boot challengers

Sadio Mane has netted 13 league goals in 28 appearances this season and is 50/1 to win the golden boot. He faces a tough task in making up seven goals on his teammate Salah. However, given the importance of Liverpool’s remaining fixtures and the quality of players around him, he has a great chance of scoring a number of goals before the end of the season.

The role of Harry Kane looks to have changed with the striker becoming a creator over recent weeks. Kane has five assists in his last three league outings. He has also gone three games without a goal and has subsequently moved to 28/1 to win a third Golden Boot.

Golden boot outsiders

Having scored blanked in eight of his last nine appearances, Raheem Sterling is now 150/1 to win the award. He has 10 league goals to his name in total making him the joint-tenth leading scorer. The winger is however a key part for Pep Guardiola’s incredible Manchester City side having started in nine of Man City’s last 11 league matches.

Jamie Vardy has suffered another injury setback and is set for a further spell on the sidelines. Having already missed 11 of the last 13 matches through injury, his chances of winning the award have taken a massive hit. He remains the joint tenth-leading scorer with 10 goals. His absence from the team has damaged his chances of claiming the award as reflected in odds of 500/1.

Ivan Toney is emerging as a late contender for the Golden Boot. The striker has now moved on to 12 league goals for the season as he was once again on target for Brentford in their 2-0 win over West Ham. The Brentford forward is 200/1 to win the award.
