Match preview

Arsenal came into this campaign with much optimism and, despite everything seemingly being set up for them to fail, made a winning start.

On the opening Friday night, the Gunners travelled to Selhurst Park, a ground they’d lost 3-0 at just 123 days earlier.

But, it was the visitors who made the breakthrough just ten minute in; a well-worked corner routine saw debutant Oleksandr Zinchenko nod it across to Gabriel Martinelli.

Crystal Palace were then on top for large spells, but Arsenal, specifically man of the match William Saliba, stood strong.

The points were then secured four minutes from time when Bukayo Saka’s attempted cross blasted in off Marc Guéhi.

So, a hard-fought victory for Mikel Arteta’s team who, back in front of their home fans, will be confident of making it two wins out of two.

Timothy Castagne’s header and then Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s rocket had the Foxes 2-0 up and cruising at home to Brentford.

But, the Bees fought back and snatched a point, thanks to a magnificent equaliser of their own just before the end.

All is not well in the East Midlands, with Kasper Schmeichel having departed and zero new signings coming in.

The Foxes are the only team from a ‘major’ European league not to have made a signing this summer, which Brendan Rodgers clearly isn’t delighted about.

So, everything points towards an Arsenal win, but Leicester will believe they can burst the bubble of optimism and expectation.
