Aston Villa and Brentford will meet this weekend as Steven Gerrard’s time at Villa Park came to an end in midweek ahead of a must-win game against the Bees who are coming into this one off the back of a commendable draw against Chelsea.
Brentford were excellent in attack at times against the Blues, with Kepa Arrizabalaga having to make a handful of saves in the first half. Ivan Toney was the man who came the closest once more, but he was denied his eighth league goal of the season after some excellent work in goal by the Spanish keeper.
Nevertheless, Brentford are sitting comfortably inside the top half after the 0-0 draw and they have now acquired an impressive 14 points from 11 games. On the other hand, they have won just three games all season long and the worries are more focused on the defensive front for the London outfit, as they have let in 17 goals in these 11 outings.
As for Villa, they are also coming into this one off the back of a home fixture against Chelsea, although they lost 2-0 after a Mason Mount double. Now, Gerrard has been sacked after a 3-0 loss to Fulham gave the Villa board very little choice but to get rid of him.
The Midlands side are still sitting outside of the drop zone, however, with nine points on the board. This puts them ahead of Wolves on just goals difference, but one gameweek could send them crashing into the bottom three.
