Match preview
A huge clash for these two newly-promoted clubs, as both seek to remain outside the relegation zone.
When the two last met at Dean Court back in May, it was essentially a straight shootout for promotion, with Kieffer Moore’s late strike sending Bournemouth up.
Forest went up via the play-offs 26 days later, but will either, or both, be going straight back down again this May?
Right now, Nottingham Forest are four points better off and are in vastly superior form.
Last weekend, Brennan Johnson’s brace saw the Reds beat East Midlands rivals Leicester 2-0 at the City Ground.
That was actually Forest’s biggest league win of the season, the other four had all been 1-0, and means Steve Cooper’s side have enjoyed back-to-back victories for the first time.
In stark contrast, AFC Bournemouth’s recent run of form has been horrendous.
The Cherries were swatted aside at Brentford last Saturday, rarely threatening the home team’s goal at any point.
Gary O’Neil’s side have now lost all six games since the World Cup break, beaten in eight of their last nine Premier League outings.
Amazing, Bournemouth are still outside the relegation zone, but could end the day bottom, depending on simultaneous results.
Bournemouth have won their last three meetings with Forest, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in Nottingham back in September.
Will that streak continue at Dean Court?
Bournemouth team news
Despite a generally abject display at Brentford last Saturday, Gary O’Neil isn’t likely to make too many changes to his team.
He could hand a debut to winger Dango Ouattara, who arrived from Lorient for €20 million on Thursday.
Striker Kieffer Moore has scored four career goals against Forest, only netting against Southend more frequently, hoping to further improve that tally here.
He’ll continue to lead the line with Dominic Solanke sidelined.
Key midfielder Lewis Cook went off injured last weekend, so is a doubt.
Predicted XI (4-4-1-1): Neto; Stacey, Senesi, Mepham, Kelly; Pearson, Lerma, Anthony, Christie, Billing; Moore.
Nottingham Forest team news
Forest, to the surprise of absolutely no one, have been busy making signing during the January window.
Chris Wood arrived from Newcastle on Friday, while both Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa have come in from Palmeiras.
Scarpa has quickly become a fans’ favourite and, with Taiwo Awoniyi injured, will continue alongside Morgan Gibbs-White and Jesse Lingard up front.
In goal, Dean Henderson is set to be sidelined for over a month, meaning Wayne Hennessey will deputise, until they sign someone else… presumably.
At the back, Willy Boly is a doubt, which’ll see Scott McKenna partner Joe Worrall once more.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Hennessey; Aurier, McKenna, Worrall, Lodi; Mangala, Yates, Freuler; Scarpa, Gibbs-White, Johnson.
