Saturday’s Premier League action sees two teams struggling for points at the moment go head to head. Given the current form of both these sides, who both sit bottom of the form table after six consecutive defeats, it’s a struggle to see where a winner may come from at the moment. They also drew 0-0 in the reverse fixture back in October.

Therefore, 101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is Brighton 1 – 1 Norwich City and is available at odds of 8.5/1.

Alternatively, you can bet on any Brighton win at 1.45/1 against Norwich City at home on Saturday.

Or, back any away win for Norwich City at 8/1 here at the Falmer Stadium in Brighton.

You can find odds of 4/1 for any draw between Brighton and Norwich City on Saturday.

Match preview

Seven weeks ago, Brighton were in the conversation for European football next season just a point behind Wolves and three behind Spurs. Fifteen points separated them and Newcastle United in the relegation zone.

Today, they are 18 points adrift of fifth-placed Spurs in the Europe League qualification spot and have somehow ended up back in the relegation conversation due to Newcastle, Brentford and Leeds all stringing together some wins.

At the same time, Norwich had hopes of somehow escaping the drop after the transfer window closed. Seven points from a possible nine against Everton, Watford and Crystal Palace saw them climb off the bottom spot and suggest Dean Smith could dig them out of the hole they found themselves for most of the season.

However, back to back tough games against Manchester City and Liverpool seemed to knock the wind out of the Canaries and they have struggled to seven consecutive defeats in all competitions as a result.

Two points per game has been the minimum target sides have aimed for to be included in a title challenge throughout the Premier League era. If Norwich could maintain this minimum title-challenging form over the remainder of the season, it would still only net them enough points to finish with 35; a total unlikely to be enough to finish above any of the sides ranked 13th to 17th at present in the table.

This means while relegation isn’t a mathematical certainty, we are in the “needing a miracle” stage of discussion for their survival hopes. A Brighton win here would almost certainly kill what little hope they have left while essentially guaranteeing the Seagulls avoid being dragged into the battle at the bottom.

Under 2.5 goals – There have been under 2.5 goals scored in all but three of Brighton’s last 19 Premier League matches. Norwich have failed to score in 16 and Brighton in 11 matches already this season. This all suggests this match could be a low-scoring affair much like their bore draw in Norwich back in October making odds of 1.72/1 for under 2.5 goals an appealing bet.

Brighton team news

Tudor Baluta is the only player ruled out for the visit of Norwich on Saturday due to an ankle problem that has plagued him all season resulting in him missing out on every squad this season so far.

Adam Webster has missed the last five squads due to a groin injury but is expected to return shortly after the international break. He faces a late fitness test to be involved in the squad here. Adam Lallana, who missed the last match with a minor hamstring problem is likewise rated as 50/50 to be involved here.

However, Tariq Lamptey (pictured above), who has been suffering from illness recently, is expected to return to the starting XI here in place of Joël Veltman at right back. Whether Veltman moves into central defence to make a back three or not remains to be seen. He has typically started when available this season though.

Norwich City team news

Adam Idah is out for the rest of the season due to his knee injury. Andrew Omobamidele is still struggling with a lower back injury that has ruled him out since the start of December. Having seen a specialist and started using a corset to solve the problem, it could be another few weeks before we know if he will return or not this season.

There is more positive news though for Sam Byram. Having missed out on the squad for the last couple of games due to fatigue, the international break will have given him plenty of time to rest and recover and he should be back in the squad putting pressure on Max Aarons for minutes at right-back. Christoph Zimmermann is also back in the side after missing the Leeds match due to an eye infection.
