Everton haven’t been relegated since 1951, nine years before Burnley’s second and most recent top-flight title.
On Sunday, Everton’s winless away run in the Premier League extended to 12 matches as they were beaten 2-1 at the London Stadium by West Ham.
Mason Holgate bagged a spectacular equaliser just after half time, only for the Hammers to restore their advantage four minutes later.
Then, when Michael Keane was dismissed for a second bookable offence, Everton’s hopes of an East End equaliser very much faded and died.
So, they’ve now lost nine of their last 11 league outings, only beating Brentford and Newcastle, both at Goodison, since Frank Lampard’s arrival.
Given that Everton kick off 17th with Burnley in 19th, the Blues are who the Clarets are aiming to catch, looking to significantly reduce the four-point deficit with a win.
Sean Dyche’s side though have lost their last four matches, conceding ten and not scoring, following Saturday’s 2-0 reverse against Manchester City.
Burnley enjoyed back-to-back wins in February, beating Brighton and Spurs, but have still only won thrice all season.
They travel to Norwich on Sunday so, after these two matches, Burnley’s survival credentials will be a lot easier to assess.

Captain Ben Mee and his usual deputy Nathan Collins are both injured, meaning Kevin Long will continue alongside James Tarkowski.
Long joined Burnley in 2010 but only made his 86th appearance for the club at the weekend and his first in the league since February 2021.
Up front, Maxwel Cornet was only on the bench on Saturday but will surely return to the side, partnering Wout Weghorst up front.
This’ll, probably, see Jack Cork miss out with Josh Brownhill remaining next to Ashley Westwood in midfield.
On the flanks, Aaron Lennon made 77 appearances for Everton while Dwight McNiel scored a spectacular winner at Goodison last season.

Michael Keane’s red card at West Ham means Everton have had a player sent off in each of their last three league outings, following Jonjoe Jenny and Allan.
So Keane is suspended while Allan will serve the final of his three-match ban in this one.
The bad news continued in Sunday’s warm-up when Donny van de Beek picked up a knock which saw him miss out on a starting place at the 11th hour.
It’s as yet unknown if the Dutchman will be fit enough for this one whilst he’s ineligible for Saturday’s meeting with Manchester United.
Fellow midfielders André Gomes, Fabian Delph and Tom Davies are injured, meaning Abdoulaye Doucouré could be joined by Dele in the XI.
At the back, Séamus Coleman is set to return after illness while Nathan Patterson is still awaiting his Premier League debut.
Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will lead the line; the latter hasn’t scored since Everton’s last away win on 28 August, largely due to injury.
