With seven games to go, few would’ve predicted that Chelsea would be bottom of the West London mini-league, one place and five points worse off than Brentford, with both seeking to catch newly-promoted Fulham.
The Blues were last in action eight nights ago, beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, a defeat that essentially ended their season.
That’s because, having taken just two points from their last five league matches, Chelsea are rooted in 11th.
Frank Lampard has lost all four matches since returning as manager, becoming the first-ever Blues boss to start with four successive defeats.
It’s also the first time since 1993 that Chelsea have suffered four successive loses in all competitions.
So, they’re on course for their lowest finish in 27 years, in danger of slipped down even lower.
The Bees were held to a 1-1 draw by Aston Villa on Saturday, with Ivan Toney breaking the deadlock, only for Villa to equalise at the death.
Thomas Frank’s team are without a win in six games, despite having been unbeaten in 12 not long before this downturn.
Nevertheless, given Chelsea’s continued stagnation, Brentford will fancy their chances of claiming a famous win.

Frank Lampard remains in charge, for now, but there are reports that Mauricio Pochettino is set to be appointed manager imminently.
Since returning, Lampard has switched between a back three and a four, so it’s unknown what he’ll go for here.
On Tuesday he confirmed that Reece James and Mason Mount will miss the rest of the season, and James’ absence means a back four is more likely.
Kalidou Koulibaly is also injured so Benoît Badiashile, who isn’t in the Champions League squad, can return at the back; Ben Chilwell is also back after suspension.
In attack, there is much point playing loanee João Félix anymore, so Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount are likely to return to the XI.

Pontus Jansson has been ruled out for the rest of the season and will join Malmö when his contract expires in the summer.
Without his club captain, Thomas Frank is likely to stick with a back four, unless Mathias Jørgensen is drafted in.
In midfield, fit-again Vitaly Janelt will keep his place, while January signing Kevin Schade is se to start a fourth match in a row in attack.
Ivan Toney bagged his 20th goal of the season at the weekend, but would miss Brentford’s next two games, Forest (H) and Liverpool (A) if booked.
