Match preview

These two clubs are located 42 miles apart but, make no mistake about it, this is one of the Premier League’s fiercest rivalries.

This particular fixture is hotly anticipated, given that they haven’t met for over a year, 393 days to be exact, with the Seagulls last claiming victory over the Eagles in March 2019.

Will that statistic change in South London?

Well, Brighton & Hove Albion certainly come into this full of confidence, given that they’re ten points and six places better off.

Last weekend, Kaoru Mitoma was on target again, this time firing home a spectacular 87th minute winner against Bournemouth at the Amex.

This victory means Roberto De Zerbi’s team have lost just once since the World Cup, yielding 13 points from six outings.

So, Brighton fans are dreaming of a trip to Wembley and, with their team kicking off in sixth place, a first-ever foray into European football.

Crystal Palace meantime are just seeking to keep their heads above water, currently just six points clear of the drop zone.

The Eagles were beaten 2-1 at Old Trafford last time out, with Jeffrey Schlupp’s late goal unable to spark a full-scale comeback.

Patrick Vieira’s team have only won one of their last eight league engagements, only beating Bournemouth since early-November.

So, will this one go the way of the in-form visitors at Selhurst Park?

Crystal Palace team news

Wilfried Zaha is set to be sidelined for six weeks, which is a serious blow, given that he’s scored eight times against Brighton, the joint-most against any single opponent.

Jeffrey Schlupp, who was on target at Old Trafford, could continue on the left-wing, chosen over Eberechi Eze.

Deadline day signings Naouirou Ahamada and Albert Sambi Lokonga both came on against Man United, so will either start in midfield this time?

At the back, with Joachim Andersen still sidelined, Chris Richards will continue as Marc Guéhi’s partner.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored his first for Palace in a 2-1 victory over Brighton but, if he’s to repeat that trick, it’ll likely be from the bench.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Guiata; Clyne, Richards, Guéhi, Mitchell; Doucouré, Ahamada, Ayew, Olise, Schlupp; Édouard.

Brighton & Hove Albion team news

For Roberto De Zerbi, there’s no need to change a winning formulae, but he does have some key personnel available again.

Moisés Caicedo is set to return in midfield; he came off the bench last weekend, his first appearance since publicly declaring his desire to join Arsenal.

In defence, Adam Webster could be back in the XI, having been eased back following an injury.

Adam Lallana and Evan Ferguson remain out, but Alexis Mac Allister will return, after serving his one-match suspension.

Kaoru Mitoma has now scored seven times this season, looking to score in a fourth consecutive match here.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Sánchez; Veltman, Dunk, Wesbter, Estupiñán; Caicedo, Groß, March, Mac Allister, Mitoma; Welbeck.
