Match preview
Following derby day success on Saturday, are Manchester United in the title race?
Well, they face two trips to the capital in the next five days and that’ll sorely test their credentials.
At the weekend, the Red Devils came from a a goal down to win the Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes firing home a very controversial equaliser, with Marcus Rashford, bizarrely, deemed to have not been interfering with play.
Four minutes later, Rashford did make his presence felt, slotting home the winner, getting on the end of Alejandro Garnacho’s cross.
This win means Erik ten Hag’s team have won five successive Premier League matches, and nine games on the spin in all competitions.
So, Man United kick off in fourth, nine points below leaders Arsenal, who they face this Sunday in North London.
Before that huge match, will ten Hag’s team close the gap with a victory in South London?
In stark contrast, Crystal Palace come into this fixture in dreadful form.
On Sunday, Patrick Vieira’s team were beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, and everyone beats Chelsea these days!
The Eagles have now lost six of their last seven in league and cup, their only victory since 6 November coming against Bournemouth.
This has seen Palace sink down to 12th, still a healthy seven points clear of danger.
When these two clubs last met, Palace won 1-0 on the final day of last season, so are now seeking back-to-back wins over Man United for the first time ever.
Safe to say the Red Devils have come on leaps and bounds in the intervening eight months, with an away win likely at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace team news
Despite an uninspired display at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Patrick Vieira is unlikely to ring the changes.
Cheick Doucouré and Jeffrey Schlupp will continue at the base of midfield, with the more flamboyant Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze also in the side.
Wilfried Zaha, famously, spent a very unsuccessful season at Manchester United, but has since scored three times against them, all coming in wins.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Guiata; Clyne, Guéhi, Andersen, Mitchell; Doucouré, Shlupp, Eze; Olise, Zaha, Ayew.
Manchester United team news
The most eye-catching team news ahead of the derby was that Luke Shaw remained at centre-back, chosen over Lisandro Martínez, Victor Lindelöf or Harry Maguire.
This is likely to remain the case, with Tyrell Malacia at left-back, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, against his former club, will deputise for the injured Diogo Dalot on the right.
Fred was drafted into midfield on Saturday, with Bruno Fernandes pushed out-wide, but Antony will come back in for this one.
Marcus Rashford has now scored in eight successive appearances at Old Trafford, but has only netted once in 12 appearances against Crystal Palace.
Brazilian duo Casemiro and Fred would both miss Sunday’s trip to Arsenal if booked here.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Shaw, Malacia; Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes; Antony, Rashford, Martial.
