Match preview

Can Tottenham Hotspur address their alarming form?

On New Year’s Day, Spurs were completely outplayed by Aston Villa on their own turf, comfortably beaten 2-0, mustering a measly xG figure of 0.51.

Amazingly, Tottenham have now conceded first in nine consecutive matches in all competitions, and have let in 2+ goals in seven successive Premier League fixtures for the first time since November 1988.

Antonio Conte’s team have accumulated just seven points from those seven outings, meaning they’ve slipped down to fifth.

Will Spurs’ malaise continue?

Crystal Palace will certainly hope so, after they’ve endured a mixed set of a results since the restart.

But then, on New Year’s Eve, the Eagles proved to be simply too good for Bournemouth, prevailing 2-0 at Dean Court.

Both goals came about courtesy of well-worked first half set-piece routines, converted by Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze.

This has seen Palace jump back up to 11th, hoping to go level on points with Chelsea here.

Vieira lost just one of 19 meetings with Spurs during his playing career with Arsenal, so can he lead Palace to a memorable mid-week London derby victory?

Crystal Palace team news

Left-back will continue to be an issue, as Tyrick Mitchell has only served one of his three-game suspension so far.

As a result, Joel Ward is set to continue to full-in on that side; Jeffrey Schlupp is an alternative.

Elsewhere, Jordan Ayew will continue to lead the line as both Jean-Philippe Mateta and Odsonne Édouard are only just back after injuries.

Wilfried Zaha has only ever scored one goal in 16 appearances against Spurs, although this did come in a 3-0 win at Selhurst last season.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Guiata; Clyne, Andersen, Guéhi, Ward; Schlupp, Doucouré, Olise, Eze, Zaha; Ayew.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Spurs continue to be without Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kuluševski and Richarlison, all of whom are huge loses.

Olivier Skipp is set to come into midfield, with Bentancur sidelined and Yves Bissouma serving a one-game ban.

Matt Doherty could continue at right-wing-back, chosen over Emerson.

In that position, Djed Spence came on to ironic cheers at the weekend.

That was his fourth Premier League appearance for the club and, bizarrely, at 88 minutes, was the earliest he’s been introduced.

In attack, Bryan Gil started in the Premier League for the first time on New Year’s Day, so it’ll be interesting to see if he starts once more.

Take note Arsenal fans: If Harry Kane is booked here, he will miss the North London derby suspended; something to keep an eye out for.

Predicted XI (5-2-3): Lloris; Emerson, Dier, Romero, Davies, Sessegnon; Højbjerg, Skipp; Son Heung-min, Perišić, Kane.
