Match preview

Two sides in the midst of contrasting recent spells of form are set to face off in a Premier League showdown at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

The clash in question will see a stuttering Everton outfit play host to Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.

Let’s first take a look at the recent efforts of the former.

Everton, after looking as though they had found their feet courtesy of a seven-game unbeaten streak across all competitions between late August and early October, have slipped off the pace in a major way of late.

The latest of these came on Wednesday night, when a solitary Miguel Almiron strike proved enough to condemn the Toffees to a deserved defeat at St. James’ Park.

Even more concerning than the result itself from an Everton perspective, though, was their performance. Utterly dominated across the 90 minutes, the visitors to Tyneside managed just one shot, failing to force Nick Pope into a single save.

Everton’s upcoming opponents, on the other hand, have enjoyed an altogether more productive go of things over recent weeks.

Crystal Palace have fallen to just one defeat from their last six outings, notching wins in two of the club’s last three.

The most recent of these came in midweek, upon struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers making the trip to south London.

After falling behind owing to an Adama Traore opener, Patrick Vieira’s men showcased their fighting spirit to ultimately turn things around, thanking goals on the part of Eberechi Eze and Wilfried Zaha for an eventual 2-1 triumph.

Palace, in turn, have climbed to the heights of mid-table in the Premier League, whilst boasting a game in hand on both Everton and a number of the sides around them.

We at 101 are therefore backing the Eagles to emerge from Goodison Park on Saturday with, at the very least, a share of the spoils.
