Match preview
The Premier League is back this Boxing Day as Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers clash at Goodison Park with Julen Lopetegui set to play out his first game in charge of the Midlands outfit as Frank Lampard aims to push his side further away from the drop zone.
Lopetegui takes charge of Wolves with them sitting bottom of the table and registering their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign. They have just two wins on the board and with only eight goals conceded, it is the fewest amount of goals the club have ever scored at this stage in a league campaign.
What’s more, they are also heading into this one having let in 24 goals already from 15 games and lost the most matches too, with a dreadful record of nine losses. Lopetegui was also having a terrible season with Sevilla before leaving the Spanish giants, and despite all his experience, this is likely going to be his toughest job in his career.
Form will be going out of the window in this one with so many weeks between this game and the 3-0 loss to Bournemouth. The Toffees are just one point above the relegation zone and despite so long off between games, a loss here could see the end of Lampard at Goodison Park.
Everton have lost seven times but won one more game than Wolves with three victories on the board. The club’s defensive record is also improving this season, letting in only 17 goals so far from 15 games.
