A rivalry that has been spread across the Championship, Premier League and the Championship playoffs down the last few seasons will get reignited here at Craven Cottage as Aston Villa and Fulham do battle where we could well see the end of Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard has been the favourite to get sacked next in the Premier League for some time after a torrid past year since taking over. In fact, there has been little justification in the ex-Rangers manager staying in his role ever since his decent start to the gig late last year. Now, after losing to Chelsea last time out in a 2-0 defeat at Villa Park, there is likely no more room for dropped points. Gerrard does see his side outside of the relegation zone for now with nine points after winning just two games.
Villa have lost five times, however, conceding 13 goals and scoring just seven in 10 outings. On the other hand, the only aspect stopping the Midlands outfit from sitting in the bottom three is how Southampton, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest have been so poor so far.
Fulham have had an excellent start to the 2022/23 campaign, but after a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth last time out, they have now moved into 11th and could see a drop to as low as 15th if other results go against them. The Cottagers have won three times this season, registering an impressive 16 goals so far in the Premier League. They have, however, let in 20 goals.
This game could spell the end of Gerrard at the Villa Park helm and anything but all three points could send his men into the bottom three.
