Match preview

Can Tottenham Hotspur start to build some momentum?

Last Sunday, Spurs pulled off, ostensibly, a shock by beating Manchester City 1-0 at home.

Although, given that the Citizens have now lost all five visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium without scoring, perhaps not.

Either way, the day belonged to Harry Kane, who bagged his 267th goal for the club, overtaking Jimmy Greaves’ record that had stood for 53 years.

That also made it back-to-back wins for Spurs, achieving this for the first time since mid-October.

Antonio Conte will be back on the touchline here having returned to the training ground on Thursday following a gallbladder operation.

Before then, will Spurs enjoy three successive league victories for the first time since May?

Leicester City also come into this clash following a vital victory last time out.

The Foxes won 4-2 at Villa Park a week ago, with James Maddison, Kelechi Ịheanachọ, debutant Tetê and Dennis Praet all on target.

Before that, Brendan Rodgers’ side were winless since the World Cup, losing four on the spin before a spirited draw with Brighton.

Now though, Leicester are up to 14th, albeit only three points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham won 3-2 at the King Power Stadium 13 months ago, with Steven Bergwijn scoring not once but twice in stoppage time.

Overall, Spurs have won their last four meetings with Leicester, scoring 16 goals, so will that trend continue at the King Power?

Leicester City team news

Brendan Rodgers threw all three January signings straight into the XI against Aston Villa.

Harry Souttar actually scored an unfortunate own goal, Tetê managed to net at the right end, while Victor Kristiansen slotted in seamlessly at left-back,

More importantly, that was James Maddison’s first league start since 12 November, scoring the equaliser, and he makes such a difference.

Kelechi Ịheanachọ was also on the scoresheet at Villa Park, so it’ll be interesting to see if he’s chosen over Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka again.

Defenders James Justin, Ricardo, Ryan Bertrand and Jonny Evans are all long-term absentees.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ward; Castange, Faes, Souttar, Kristiansen; Tielemans, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tetê, Maddison, Barnes; Ịheanachọ.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Antonio Conte may be back on the touchline, but he’ll bring with him a depleted side.

Hugo Lloris is out with a knee injury for around six weeks, meaning Fraser Forster will deputise.

Meantime, it was confirmed on Thursday that Yves Bissouma has undergone ankle surgery, while defender Cristian Romero unavailable too, serving his one-match ban.

Davinson Sánchez will fill-in for Romero at the back, with Clément Lenglet the alternative option.

New signing Pedro Porro is hoping for his debut at right-wing-back, although Emerson was immense last Sunday, so may take some shifting.

Harry Kane has scored 20 career goals against Leicester, the most against any single opponent, with 7.12% of his 267 for Spurs coming versus the Foxes.

Along similar lines, 7.19% of Son Heung-min’s Spurs goals have come in this fixture, including a hat-trick in September.

Predicted XI (5-2-3): Forster; Emerson, Sánchez, Dier, Davies, Perišić; Højbjerg, Bentancur; Kuluševski, Son Hueng-min, Kane.
