Tip of the game

Match Preview

It’s one of the all-time classic Premier League meetings as Arsenal head to Old Trafford where Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are in search of back-to-back home wins after a phenomenal win against Liverpool.

This game has more meaning to it than recent matches between these two giants of the English game. It’s set to be the game that tests Arsenal’s early credentials at competing inside the top four, as the Gunners have won every game so far in the Premier League. What’s more, it’s the first time they’ve faced a side who finished inside the top seven from last season, with Leicester City the only victory over a top 10 side from the previous campaign.

Arsenal have, however, been magical to watch this season. So far, the club have managed to beat Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Fulham and Leicester in 2022/23, scoring 13 goals and letting in just four. To compare, Arsenal were almost registering the worst start in Premier League history this time last year with them failing to win their first three.

Mikel Arteta’s men look completely different now, and off the back of a 3-2 win for United last season at Old Trafford, Arsenal will look to get back some of the form that previously saw them beat the Red Devils quite regularly in the post-Arsene Wenger era.

United are going to need to recapture some of the form shown against Liverpool in their last Old Trafford win if they are to win here, as Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford scored a goal each in the 2-1 win. They have, however, managed to beat Southampton and Leicester 1-0 each away from home afterwards.

Arsenal and United games usually go one way or the other, and based on the starts either side have made, this is set to be their biggest test to date and we likely will get an insight into how the seasons may unfold for either club.
