Match preview

The first Manchester derby is upon us this Sunday afternoon as Erik ten Hag takes his in-form Manchester United to the Etihad where Erling Haaland will be in search of his 12th Premier League goal of the season.

Haaland has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and he already sits five goals ahead of Harry Kane in second in the Golden Boot race. City are, however, sitting second in the table and level on points with Tottenham Hotspur and trailing Arsenal by just one point.

The are champions still unbeaten, though, and they are fresh off the back of hammering Wovlerhampton Wanderers 3-0 in the Premier League and beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 and Sevilla 4-0 in the Champions League. Just prior to this, Pep Guardiola’s men registered their second draw of the league season to Aston Villa.

As for United, their last game was the 3-1 win over Arsenal, as they became the only side to beat the table-topping Gunners this campaign. Marcus Rashford scored twice that day, as did Antony on his debut. It means four winning games on the run for United now, as they also beat Southampton and Leicester City 1-0, with a famous 2-1 victory over Liverpool the highlight of the season for the Red Devils.

If ten Hag can get it right on the tactics board just as he did against Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta, there could be an upset here. Ten Hag’s main job, however, isn’t about his own players; it’s about stopping Haaland.
