No side since Derby County 25 years ago have won their first-ever Premier League visit to Old Trafford. Brentford are unbeaten in 12 league matches played on Mondays; Man United have won just one of their last seven on this day. Since the start of 2016/17, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 30 goals in 27 appearances against newly-promoted clubs.

Both teams to score is 7/10.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is 21/20.

Manchester United to win and both teams to score is 12/5.

Cristiano Ronaldo is 3/1 to break the deadlock and 4/5 to add to his 23 goals this season.

Match preview

It may only be 2 May but this, believe it or not, is Manchester United’s final home game of what’s been a very eventful campaign.

Those would prove to be season highlights with Ole Gunnar Solskjær sacked in November following a shambolic 4-1 drubbing at otherwise hopeless Watford.

Under Ralf Rangnick’s watch, the Red Devils have been knocked out the FA Cup by Middlesbrough and the Champions League by Atlético Madrid.

This means Man United supporters are enduring a fifth consecutive season without a trophy; this last happened in 1974!

In league terms, they’ve lost their last four away matches in a row, last suffering this fate in 1981, going on to finish eighth that year.

On Thursday, Man United held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at home with Cristiano Ronaldo, who else, bagging a stunning equaliser mere seconds after the Blues had struck.

However, even if they win their remaining three games, that’ll take their points tally to 64, last accumulating less than that in 1991.

Back then, they ended up sixth, although admittedly they did also win the Cup Winners’ Cup, and sixth is their current position once again.

Their top four hopes are almost over so, as tripe as it might sound, they need to make sure of a top six finish, or the Europa Conference League could await them in August.

In stark contrast, it’s been an unprecedented season for Brentford, but in a good way as they returned to the top-flight after 74 years away.

Thomas Frank’s side though haven’t just made up the numbers, reaching 40 points last weekend, meaning they can start planning for another year in the Premier League.

This came as the Bees held Tottenham to a goalless draw, a game they were very unfortunate not to win, hitting the woodwork in each half.

Nevertheless, this point continued Brentford’s remarkable form since the start of March.

They’ve now taken 16 points from the last 21 available, despite only accumulating 12 points from the previous 60 on the table.

When these two met at the Brentford Community Stadium in January, Man United scored thrice in 22 second half minutes to leave with the points.

Now, as the two clubs meet at Old Trafford for the first time since a League Cup tie in 1975, can Brentford add to the Red Devils’ misery?

Manchester United team news

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba, Fred, and Edinson Cavani are all injured while Jadon Sancho missed the draw with Chelsea due to tonsillitis.

This meant their only senior, outfield substitutes in that game were Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Juan Mata.

Thus, Ralf Rangnick has limited options if he does want to shake up his XI.

Raphaël Varane and Victor Lindelöf will continue at centre-back with the departing Nemanja Matić anchoring midfield.

17 year old Alejandro Garnacho made his debut off the bench in midweek.

He was born on 1 July 2004, 40 days after Manchester United beat Millwall in the FA Cup Final, with Cristiano Ronaldo breaking the deadlock in Cardiff.

Ronaldo scored his first-ever Premier League goal against Chelsea on Thursday.

This means he’s scored against 28 of the 34 clubs he’s faced in the competition, with Brentford one of the expectations.

Another is Crystal Palace, who they face on the final day, which would leave just Wolves, Sheffield United, Leeds and Leicester.

Brentford team news

Last weekend’s draw with Tottenham was the first time Christian Eriksen has started for Brentford and they’ve not won, after a perfect five out of five before this.

The Dane will continue to supply the front two of Ivan Toney, who scored in the reverse fixture, and Bryan Mbeumo.

The latter has netted four Premier League goals this season, all against teams that begin with W, something he’ll look to rectify this month.

At the back, Thomas Frank was without Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer and Mathias Jørgensen for the Spurs game.

This meant Mads Bech Sørensen and Mads Roerslev Rasmussen were drafted into a make-shift back-line which looked anything but in that game.

Goalkeeper David Raya, who missed a large period of this season injured, continues to be a key figure.

They’ve won eight of 20 games with him between the sticks (40%), as oppose to just two wins from 14 without (14%).
