Match preview

After a thrilling draw in the Europa League on Thursday night, it’s back to domestic business as Manchester United’s jam-packed schedule continues.

In mid-week, the Red Devils held Barcelona to a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou, with Marcus Rashford’s 22nd goal of the season helping them lead 2-1, only to be denied victory by a late equaliser.

Nevertheless, Erik ten Hag’s team are in a more than decent position ahead of the return leg this forthcoming Thursday.

Back in the Premier League, Man United are now third, having beaten Leeds at Elland Road last Sunday.

A week from now, they’ll be at Wembley for the Carabao Cup Final, taking on Newcastle with silverware on the line.

So, with this Man United’s last league fixture until a trip to Anfield on 5 March, they will not want to slip-up.

The Foxes have scored four in each of their last two games, first coming from behind to win 4-2 at Villa Park, before smashing Tottenham 4-1 last time out.

Nampalys Mendy lashed home a stunning equaliser against Spurs, his first for the club, before James Maddison, Kelechi Ịheanachọ and Harvey Barnes were all on target in their first home win since 20 October.

These back-to-back victories have lifted Brendan Rodgers’ team up to 13th, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Leicester won 2-1 at Old Trafford during lockdown, Çağlar Söyüncü heading home the winner, but they haven’t won at the Theatre of Dreams with supporters present since 1998.

Will that fact change here?

Manchester United team news

Casemiro is serving the last of his three-match domestic ban, but Lisandro Martínez and Marcel Sabitzer will be back in, after being suspended in UEFA competition on Thursday.

With Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen injured, Man United are short of midfielders just now, meaning Fred will be alongside Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes.

At the back, as was the case last Sunday, Harry Maguire could be given a rare start, with Raphaël Varane rested.

Wout Weghorst, who was deployed as a number ten at Camp Nou, is likely to be leading the line this time; his only goal for the club, to date, came in the Carabao Cup.

Marcus Rashford will continue to be the main goal threat, having become the first player to score in six consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford since Wayne Rooney in 2012:

Predicted XI: (4-3-3): de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Martínez, Malacia; Sabitzer, Fred, Fernandes; Sancho, Rashford, Weghorst.

Leicester City team news

Leicester have had over a week to prepare for this match, so could well be unchanged.

This’ll see January signings Harry Souttar, Victor Kristiansen and Tetê all keep their places in the XI.

James Maddison’s return to full-fitness has been a key reason behind Leicester’s upturn in form; he’s seeking to score against Man United for the first time.

Kelechi Ịheanachọ will continue to get the nod up front, aiming to score in three successive Premier League appearances for the first time since April 2021.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ward; Castange, Faes, Souttar, Kristiansen; Mendy, Dewsbury-Hall, Tetê, Maddison, Barnes; Ịheanachọ.
