Newcastle have won their last three home league matches, last claiming four consecutive victories at St James’ three years ago. Manager Eddie Howe has never won four successive top-flight home games. Both teams have scored in all 13 Premier League meetings between these two, making it the most-played fixture in the league’s history in which this has occurred.

Both teams to score is 1/1.

Newcastle United to win and both teams to score is 9/2.

Allan Saint-Maximin is 8/1 to open the scoring and 3/1 to score anytime.

Match preview

Can Wolverhampton Wanderers continue their push for European football?

Last weekend, Wolves beat Midlands rivals Aston Villa 2-1 at Molineux with Jonny opening the scoring before an own goal proved to be the difference.

As a result, Wolves are currently eighth, but would leapfrog both Manchester United and West Ham with a win, before those two are in action over the weekend.

Assuming Crystal Palace don’t win the FA Cup, seventh place will be to see Wolves return to Europe for the second time in three seasons.

Newcastle United meanwhile will surely harbour European aspirations in the not too distant future.

For now, Eddie Howe will just be looking for a reaction from his side after they were hammered 5-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Fabian Schär actually opened the scoring with a free-kick in North London but the Magpies collapsed, conceding 5+ for the first time since December 2020.

So, the Toon Army have now lost three successive Premier League games, despite being unbeaten in the nine games before this drop off in form.

Newcastle are 15th, seven points clear of the bottom three, so aren’t going to go down, but will still want a strong end to the season.

Who will come out on top at, what’ll surely be, a raucous St James’ Park?

Newcastle United team news

Fabian Schär’s goal at Spurs means Newcastle have now scored four direct free-kick goals this season from just seven attempts.

He’ll continue at centre-back alongside Dan Burn, with club captain Jamaal Lascelles missing out.

In midfield, Bruno Guimarães was the big-money arrival in January, but the Brazilian international has only started three Premier League games to date.

That’s because Eddie Howe has, for the most part, trusted the midfield trio of Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock and the all-action Joelinton.

Allan Saint-Maximin will continue to be the main goal threat, looking to add to his five goals so far this season.

Chris Wood though has scored five goals in his last four appearances against Wolves, including a hat-trick at Molineux last season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers team news

Wing-back Jonny had been out for ten months due to a knee injury, but has come back and scored in Wolves’ last two fixtures.

Here, he could become only the fifth Wolves player to score in three successive Premier League appearances.

The last player to achieve this is Raúl Jiménez, but he’s serving the second of his two-match ban, following his red card against Leeds.

Fábio Silva could keep his place up front, although Hee-chan Hwang, who bagged a brace when Newcastle visited Molineux, is another good option.

Rúben Neves missed last weekend’s game and is a doubt for this one too.
