The Canaries ran out 1-2 winners when these sides met for the first time in the English top flight back in November. They also have the upper hand in the recent head to head, with four wins and two draws from their last six encounters in all competitions. The games have all been tight and settled by a one-goal margin.

Therefore, 101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is Norwich City 1 – 0 Brentford and is available at odds of 8.5/1.

Alternatively, you can bet on any Norwich City win at 2.9/1 against The Bees at home on Saturday.

Or, back any away win for Brentford at 2.7/1 here at Carrow Road.

You can find odds of 3.2/1 for any draw between Norwich City and Brentford on Saturday.

Match preview

Norwich City welcomes Brentford to Carrow Road on Saturday for this Premier League match. This weekend’s league fixtures pit these teams against each other in what could be a relegation six-pointer, featuring the sides in 20th and 15th in the table.

A win for Norwich could move them within two points of the safety of 17th and just four points behind Brentford with a game in hand on the Bees. A win for Brentford though could be a damaging blow to Norwich’s survival hopes to leave them at least five points and a lot of goal difference adrift of the clubs above like Leeds and Everton. It would also give Brentford a nice six-point cushion on Burnley in 18th.

This could also be an important weekend to get points on the board given that Burnley, Watford and Everton all face tough fixtures against sides battling for Champions League football next season as they face Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs respectively.

Norwich’s run of four wins in five at the start of 2022 was the new manager bounce Dean Smith would have hoped for. However, their last three games, albeit against tough opposition, has seen them come into this match on a run of three straight defeats while conceding nine goals and scoring just one in reply. Last weekend’s 2-0 defeat against Southampton could have been even heavier if anything. Expected goals of 3.1 to 0.4, and nine shots on target to one all in favour of Southampton highlights the gulf in quality between the two sides.

Teemu Pukki is Norwich City’s top scorer with six goals in Premier League this season and is the 3/1 favourite among Norwich players to score on Saturday.

Brentford’s problems are even greater though, having picked up just one point out of a possible 24 from their last eight games. Like Norwich, expected goals of 2.3 to 0.5 in favour of Newcastle last weekend shows they were well beaten. Although, they will point to an early red card as extenuating circumstances.

While we have talked about second season syndrome with Sheffield United and Leeds, it feels Brentford are going through second half of the season syndrome. They had more than double the points on the board at the start of 2022 to the clubs in the relegation zone but could finish matchday 28 in the bottom three having played more games than all those around them.

Ivan Toney is Brentford’s top scorer with six goals in Premier League this season and is the 2.25/1 favourite to score against Norwich City on Saturday.

Norwich City team news

Adam Idah and Andrew Omobamidele (above) remain on the long term injury list with knee and lower back injuries respectively. Ozan Kabak is still struggling with a shoulder problem that saw him miss out on last weekend’s squad. Jakob Sorensen is nearer a return but this match is expected to come a little too soon for him.

Max Aarons and Brandon Williams both picked up knocks in the 2-0 defeat in Southampton and face late fitness tests to be involved here. Sam Byram and Dimitrios Giannoulis will be ready to replace the full backs if required.

Brentford team news

The focus here will be on the selection of Christian Eriksen (above). Eriksen played 40 minutes of their 0-2 defeat against Newcastle last weekend in his first minutes on a pitch since his collapse on the pitch during Denmark’s match against Finland in the Euros. Brentford desperately needs some quality in midfield and he could be in line to make his first start for the club here.

The red card shown to Josh Dasilva after just 11 minutes in their last league match against Newcastle United means Brentford will now be without him. The Bees are still without Julian Jeanvier and Tarique Fosu due to knee and hamstring injuries respectively. Zanka returned from injury last weekend to be named in the squad as an unused substitute while Ivan Toney had a 30-minute cameo after missing the last three matches with a lower-leg injury. He is expected to start here in place of the suspended Dasilva.
