Match preview

Can Nottingham Forest climb off the bottom of the Premier League table?

A fortnight ago, the Reds put in, by far, their best performance of the season, beating Liverpool 1-0 at home.

Taiwo Awoniyi firing home on the rebound, sending the City Ground into raptures.

However, last weekend, Steve Cooper’s side were then hammered 5-0 by Arsenal in North London and, in truth, it could’ve been more.

The Gunners had 24 shots, to Forest’s five, the biggest differential in any Premier League game this season.

As a result, the Tricky Trees remain at the foot of the table, although just three points from safety.

Ben Mee’s spectacular overhead kick helped the Bees hold Wolves to a 1-1 draw last Saturday.

However, Thomas Frank’s side have actually only won one of their last seven, and are yet to win on the road this season.

Brentford won their last visit to the City Ground, 3-1 in December 2020, so will this one also produce an away win?

Nottingham Forest team news

It’ll be interesting to see how many changes Steve Cooper makes to his XI; he isn’t short of options!

Jesse Lingard hasn’t been directly involved in a Premier League goal since 19 September last year, so is surely a prime candidate to drop out.

Neco Williams could return at full-back, displacing either Renan Lodi or Serge Aurier.

Moussa Niakhaté is still out due to a hamstring injury, but Orel Mangala is fit again, so could come into midfield.

Centre-backs Scott McKenna, Steve Cook and Joe Worrall are all one yellow card away from a ban.

Brentford team news

A huge blow for Brentford is that Ivan Toney will serve a one-match suspension, after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves.

So, Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo are set to lead the line; Mikkel Damsgaard is the alternative.

With Pontus Jansson and Aaron Hickey sidelined, Kristoffer Ajer will continue at right-back, with Ethan Pinnock once again Ben Mee’s partner.
