Match preview

Nottingham Forest have one more chance to get off the foot of the table just before the World Cup break when they play hosts to Crystal Palace the the City Ground this weekend with the home side rock bottom on 10 points and nine adrift of Crystal Palace just inside the top 10.

Despite the woes in the league, Forest did manage to move into the next round of the EFL Cup in midweek, as Renan Lodi and Jesse Lingard scored their first goals for the club in a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground.

Nevertheless, in the Premier League, they have just two wins from 14 games and have let in 30 goals and scored only 10 of their own. There is a mathematical chance of getting out of the bottom three here, but this would require a win and a goals difference of three goals overturned on Bournemouth, while also hoping they better Southampton and Wolves’ results.

Palace beat West Ham United in the last set of fixtures, while they beaten by Newcastle United on penalties in the EFL Cup at St. James’ Park. Against the Hammers, Michel Olise scored the winning goal with just seconds left on the clock, as the club came from behind to win.

Palace are now up into 10th in the league table and as long as they match or better the result of Brentford, they will sit inside the top 10 until after Christmas.
