Manchester United are finally in the win column in the 2022/23 season after a sensational performance against Liverpool on Monday night with the Red Devils travelling to St Mary’s this Saturday where Southampton awaits.
The Saints have been quite topsy-turvy so far this season. The club started things off with a 4-1 demolition at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur away from home, before they met with Leeds United where they turned over a two-goal lead for the Whites near the end of the game.
Joe Aribo and Kyle Walker-Peters got in on the act that day, but the saving grace for Southampton this season has been Scotland international, Che Adams. The forward scored two excellent goals last weekend against Leicester City off the bench, including a tremendous volley from inside the box.
Adams was on the scoresheet once again in midweek, as Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men eased past Cambridge United in the League Cup, where Dominic Ballard scored a goal too.
United, however, are still needing to prove to the rest of the Premier League that they are the real deal under Erik ten Hag, because for all the excellence in attack and defence against Liverpool, it still isn’t enough to look past their torrid results against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.
What’s more, despite being the better side and racking up all three points, they still couldn’t keep a clean sheet against their Merseyside rivals. Ten Hag may also bring Casemiro straight into the starting XI to help solidify the defence even more, as Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane put on a clinic on Monday night.
have finally clicked and get another win.
