Wolves to win to nil – 3/1

Before Rodrigo’s last-gasp penalty equaliser earlier this season for a 1-1 draw, Leeds had failed to score in their last three meetings against Wolves, while Bruno Lage’s side have kept back-to-back clean sheets so expect another tight game.

Wolves to win and Leeds to receive over two bookings – 7/2

Jesse Marsch has emphasised the importance of aggression for Leeds and his side have seen 10 yellows in the three games under his watch so far. They are likely to be frustrated by Wolves on Friday night, leading to more booking opportunities.

Match preview

Despite back-to-back wins over Watford and Everton respectively, Wolves’ hopes of a top-four finish have taken a huge hit in recent weeks.

The face a run of winnable games however, starting at home to Leeds on Friday night before the international break brings a temporary half to the league season.

For Leeds, they will be full of confidence heading into the game following a dramatic win over Norwich on Sunday that appears to have revived belief in their ability to avoid relegation.

The late winner from Joe Gelhardt – coming deep into stoppage time after Norwich’s equaliser which was also in time added on – ended a run of six successive defeats and eight games without a win and means they are four points clear of the bottom three.

Realistically, another two wins could be enough to secure Leeds’ place in the top flight next season, and this game marks the second game of a run that sees them take on Southampton and Watford in games Jesse Marsch’s side will realistically think they can take something home from.

Perversely, playing away from home could be a benefit to Leeds whose players have struggled to cope with the expectation of the Elland Road crowd of late – although Rodrigo and Raphinha showed real signs of rediscovering top form in the win over Norwich and will be crucial to any hopes of upsetting Wolves.

Wolverhampton Wanderers team news

There will be late checks on Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto ahead of the game, who are being assessed after suffering thigh and ankle injuries respectively but are likely to be involved in some capacity.

However Nelson Semedo (thigh) and Ki-Jana Hoever (thigh) are both definitely out, with Semedo likely to be out for around a month and Hoever expected back after the international break.

Leeds United team news

Leeds have been handed a major boost by the returns of Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips to full training, with Jesse Marsch making the pair available for selection immediately.

Phillips is the more likely of the two to be thrown straight in given his importance to the side, but there remain questions over the fitness of Rodrigo (quad) and Joe Gelhardt (back) while Patrick Bamford is again unlikely to play 90 minutes and Junior Firpo is out for up to six weeks.
