Match preview
At the half-way mark of this season, very few would’ve predicted that Liverpool would be down in ninth place, 21 points below the leaders.
Last season, Jürgen Klopp’s team featured in 63 games, the maximum amount possible, and were within two wins of the quadruple.
Now, they’ve endured their worst first half of a campaign since 2014/15, going onto finish sixth under Brendan Rodgers back then.
Last weekend, the Reds’ hopes of retaining the FA Cup also went up in flames, beaten by Brighton, despite taking the lead through Harvey Elliott.
That means Klopp’s side have won just one of six matches in 2023, although that did come at Molineux just 18 days ago.
Despite the fact this’ll be their first league meeting of the season, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool have already gone head-to-head twice in the last four weeks.
In the subsequent replay, that was far less eventful, Elliott was the only scorer, meaning the Wanderers will be looking for some revenge here.
In Premier League terms, Julen Lopetegui has won two of his five matches, only beaten by the Manchester clubs so far.
This leaves Wolves hovering just above the relegation zone, so they’d love a victory here to spark their campaign into life.
Liverpool haven’t lost a league match at Molineux since 1981, with Bruce Grobbelaar and Mark Lawrenson making their debuts that day.
Will Wolves shatter that statistic and add to the Reds’ growing misery?
Wolverhampton Wanderers team news
Since their last game, a 3-0 drubbing at Manchester City, Wolves have signed defender Craig Dawson and midfielder João Gomes.
Dawson has previously scored against Liverpool for both West Brom and West Ham, so will be a threat from centre-back, if selected.
Hwang Hee-chan’s equaliser at Anfield four weeks ago could see him start, while the other scorer that day, Gonçalo Guedes, has since left for Benfica.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): José Sá; Semedo, Collins, Kilman, Bueno; Neves, Nunes, Moutinho; Podence, Hwang, Cunha.
Liverpool team news
Virgil van Dijk and Diogo Jota could be back soon, but aren’t available here, while Luis Díaz is also out long-term.
Both Ibrahima Konaté and Fabinho were extremely lucky to avoid red cards last Sunday, but both are available for this one.
However, Fabinho may remain on the bench, as Stefan Bajčetić continues to impress at the base of midfield.
Cody Gakpo will be hoping to score his first goal for Liverpool in, what will be, his sixth appearance since arriving from PSV.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, Matip, Robertson; Bajčetić, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Elliott, Gakpo.
