Match preview

The 47th edition of the UEFA Super Cup sees Europe’s most successful club take on a team competing for this trophy for the very first time.

Back in May, Vinícius Júnior scored the only goal as Real Madrid beat Liverpool at Stade de France.

This was los Blancos’ 14th Champions League triumph, with five of these coming in the last nine seasons.

It completed an historic season for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who’d also regained the La Liga title and beaten Barcelona in the Supercopa de España Final.

Summer signings Antonio Rüdiger and Aurélien Tchouaméni are set to make their debuts at Helsinki Olympic Stadium, looking to lift their first silverware for the Spanish giants.

Eintracht Frankfurt meantime lifted their first major European silverware since 1980 to conclude last season.

The Eagles beat Olympiacos, Real Betis, Barcelona, West Ham and then Rangers on penalties as they were crowned Europa League winners in Seville.

This means Oliver Glasner will lead Frankurt into the Champions League group stages for the very first time, with this a taster of what’s to come next month.

Worryingly though, they kicked off the new Bundesliga season on Friday night by welcoming Bayern Munich to Deutsche Bank Park.

The visitors were 4-0 up by half time, eventually winning 5-1.

So, expect goals in Helsinki, with Real Madrid big favourites to lift their record-equalling fifth UEFA Super Cup.
