Will Heart of Midlothian tighten their grip over third place?

Last time out, 13 days ago now, Hearts suffered a rare defeat, beaten 2-0 by Motherwell at Fir Park.

This was just a second defeat in 12 Premiership matches for Robbie Neilson’s side, and their first defeat against a team below them since 15 October.

Nevertheless, the Jambos remain third, five points clear of city-rivals Hibs, on course for another season of guaranteed UEFA group stage football.

St Johnstone meantime were in action last weekend, drawing 1-1 with St Mirren at McDiarmid Park.

On one hand, this was a good result, given that Daniel Phillips had been sent off in first half stoppage time following VAR review.

Nevertheless, Callum Davidson’s side have now lost just one of their last four, so remain eighth, seven points clear of danger.

Hearts have won both meetings with St Johnstone this season by the same 3-2 scoreline, victorious in Gorgie in August and then in Perth in December.

Will this one also go the Jambos’ way at Tynecastle?
