Scottish Cup quarter-final weekend kicks off in Gorgie with the first of four all-Premiership ties strewn across three days.

However, this season, there is real belief that it could be maroon ribbons draping from the trophy in May.

Last weekend, Robbie Neilson’s side drew 2-2 with Dundee United thanks to Craig Halkett’s late equaliser at Tannadice.

The Jambos endured a little blip in February, losing three in-a-row, but remained third in the Premiership, a whopping 13 points clear of fourth.

If one of the top three wins this year’s Scottish Cup, third-place will secure guaranteed European group stage football, something Hearts have never experienced.

With their very respectable league positition pretty much sown up, perhaps the Jambos can go all in as they attempt to win this trophy.

Will Hearts supporters be heading back to Hampden on Easter weekend after a victory here?

Don’t count out St Mirren though, after they reached the semi-finals of both cups last season, last reaching a final in 2013 when they lifted the League Cup.

The Buddies were in league action on Wednesday night, taking on the Premiership’s bottom club Dundee at Dens Park.

The game looked set for a goalless draw until, in the 93rd minute, Connor Ronan’s header saw the visitors snatch all three points.

This is huge for new manager Stephen Robinson given that he’d failed to win any of his first four games in charge, losing three of them.

Robinson himself took Motherwell to both cup finals in 2017/18, losing to Celtic twice, but this was the first time the club had achieved this since 1951.

This one could go either way but will Hearts just be too strong at Tynecastle?

Heart of Midlothian team news

First-choice full-backs Alex Cochrane and Michael Smith are both currently injured, meaning Nathaniel Atkinson and Stephen Kingsley will deputise.

Both John Souttar and Cammy Devlin hobbled off at Tannadice last weekend, making both doubts for this one.

Andy Halliday would come in at the base of midfield with Toby Sibbick partnering Craig Halkett at the back.

Just behind them, 39 year old goalkeeper Craig Gordon won the Scottish Cup with Hearts in 2006 and would love to do it again.

Further forward, Barrie McKay and Gary Mackay-Steven appear to be the first-choice wingers right now with Josh Ginnelly missing out.

Liam Boyce will continue just in behind January loan signing Ellis Simms.

St Mirren team news

Given that they were in action less than 72 hours ago, fatigue will be more of a factor for Stephen Robinson’s side.

The Saints switched to a back four in midweek but, for a much tougher game here, a return to a back five wouldn’t surprise anybody.

This would see Conor McCarthy return alongside captain Joe Shaughnessy and Charlie Dunne.

Alex Gogić was given a rare start at Dens, alongside Alan Power; those two form a tough-tackling, no-nonsense midfield if ever there’s been one.

Eamonn Brophy is fully fit now and is likely to lead the line, in place of January signing Alex Greive.
