Match preview
Just one Scottish club have won a match in a UEFA group stage this season, and that is Heart of Midlothian.
On Thursday night, Lawrence Shankland’s penalty and then Alan Forrest’s stoppage time clincher saw Hearts beat RFS 2-0 in Riga.
This is the Jambos’ first group stage victory for 18 years and, amazingly, Craig Gordon was in goal both times.
In the context of this season, Hearts have lept up to second in their Europa Conference League section, ahead of a pivotal double-header against Fiorentina.
Back in the Premiership, Robbie Neilson’s side have lost their last two away games, these coming at Celtic and Livingston.
So, they start the weekend fourth which, given they’re juggling European commitments, isn’t bad at all.
This’ll be Stevie Hammell’s team’s first match for 15 days, held to a goalless draw by Dundee United back then.
Kevin van Veen saw a penalty saved and hit the crossbar; it certainly wasn’t the Dutchman’s afternoon.
So, this one could go either-way at Fir Park.
