Match preview

The season may only be one week old, but it’s been an eventful start to the campaign for Motherwell.

First, the Steelmen were simply embarrassing in Europe, hammered 3-0 by Sligo Rovers, a scoreline that doesn’t reflect the Irish side’s dominance.

So, less than 48 hours before their Premiership opener, manager Graham Alexander was sacked.

This turned out to be a masterstroke because, led by academy director Steven Hammell, they made a winning start.

They managed to hold on with just ten-men; Ricki Lamie sent off eight minutes from time for a reckless tackle.

So, will the managerless side make it two wins out of two?

St Johnstone meantime were beaten 1-0 by Hibernian in their league opener.

Everything went against the Saints; Murray Davidson was controversially sent off, with Hibs’ stoppage time winner, seemingly, going in off a hand.

Given this, Callum Davidson’s side will be doubly determined to get off the mark this time round.

Will there be a winner at Fir Park?
