Motherwell actually drew 1-1 at Ibrox back in September but, a month latter, Rangers enjoyed a 6-1 victory at Fir Park. In all, the Gers are unbeaten in 13 meetings with the Well, dating back to the 2017 League Cup semi-final.

Rangers to win and over 2.5 goals is 5/6.

Rangers to win and both teams to score NO is 4/5.

Fashion Sakala has scored four goals in just two appearances against Motherwell. The Zambian is 5/2 to break the deadlock and 4/6 to net anytime.

Match preview

After a famous European night on Thursday, it’s back to the Premiership title race for Rangers.

In midweek, the Gers welcomed Borussia Dortmund to Ibrox which, safe to say, was bouncing after a 4-2 away win at Westfalenstadion a week earlier.

Nevertheless, just before the hour mark, Tavernier came steaming in at the back post and emphatically made it 2-2 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate.

Despite scoring another that was very dubiously disallowed by VAR, the Light Blues got through, claiming a massive scalp to do so,

On Friday morning, they were drawn against Crvena zvezda, or Red Star Belgrade if you prefer, in a mouth-watering last 16 tie.

Before then, can Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side claim three Premiership points.

A victory here is a must for Rangers after recent league slip-ups.

Last weekend, the Gers could only draw 1-1 with Dundee United at Tannadice, meaning they’ve only won three of seven league games in 2022.

So, despite being six points clear of New Years’ Day, the champions are now three points behind Celtic.

Thus, they can’t drop yet more points here.

Motherwell meanwhile make the short 15.6 mile journey north-west in very poor form.

Last weekend, the Steelmen held Aberdeen to a 1-1 draw at Fir Park thanks to Mark O’Hara’s second half equaliser.

So, Graham Alexander’s men are now winless in seven Premiership matches, despite winning four of six before this downturn in form.

As a result, Motherwell have slipped down to sixth but are only below the European places on goal difference.

Will Rangers be too strong at Ibrox?

Rangers team news

Filip Helander who, bizarrely, isn’t in the Europa League squad, will return here with Calvin Bassey moving over to left-back and Borna Barišić dropping out.

Leon Balogun is also an option after he came on at half time against Borussia Dortmund.

Aaron Ramsey will be hoping to, at least, be on the bench having missed the last two games due to a knock.

Alfredo Morelos will lead the line although Fashion Sakala could come in, probably out-wide, after his Fir Park hat-trick on Halloween.

Motherwell team news

Kaiyne Woolery scored a second half equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Ibrox earlier this season so will be hoping to return to the XI at the same venue.

Liam Shaw, on loan from Celtic, is likely to be a substitute with Liam Donnelly, Mark O’Hara and Sean Goss the usual midfield trio.

Kevin van Veen will lead the line, hoping to add to his nine goals for the club.
