Sixth meets with seventh in Serie A this weekend in a game that has rapidly become one of the most important for Stefano Pioli in his reign as AC Milan manager with Torino looking to close the gap on the European spots.
Milan head into this game off the back of arguably their worst run of form in the past two years and with their title defence all but over in what has turned out to be a shambolic defence of the Scudetto.
The champions now head into this one off the back of a loss to city rivals Inter Milan, a 5-2 demolition from 15th-placed Sassuolo at the San Siro, and a 4-0 hammering from Lazio in Rome. It has thrown Milan 18 points behind Napoli and adrift of Inter in second by five points.
Worse yet, Pioli’s side are only ahead of Torino in seventh by eight points and if they lose here, it could be nothing short of disastrous.
As for Torino, they beat Udinese 1-0 last time out to move ahead of them and into fifth in the table. Ivan Juric’s side will need to keep on winning and grab all three points if they want to head into Europe next season.
