The Serie A sees a huge mid-table clash between Sassuolo and Bologna this weekend before the break for the World Cup until January as Thiago Motta’s men welcome Sassuolo to the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.
It’s been a topsy-turvy campaign for both sides heading into this game and although Bologna have managed to turn around their form and rocket away from the relegation zone in the past month, they are still the worst defensive side for those outside of the relegation zone, and only last-placed Hellas Verona have conceded more than their 25 so far.
Although the defensive record before the midweek clash with Inter Milan was poor, the fact they lost 6-1 at the San Siro has emphasised how terrible they have been at the back this season. Charalampos Lykogiannis managed to score for Bologna, which ironically, was the opening goal of the game until a comeback win and six goals ensued for Inter.
The club stayed in 13th as a result, and they are only behind 13th-placed Sassuolo by goals difference, making the fact they let in six in Milan even more embarrassing. As for the away side here, they managed to get a decent point against Roma on Wednesday, as Andrea Pinamonti cancelled out Tammy Abraham’s opener with five minutes left in regular time.
Sassuolo have still scored less goals than Bologna, despite the superior goals difference tally, but neither side have been able to convince fan so far that a top half finish could come in at the end of the season.
