Atalanta are coming off the back of a win and a draw in Serie A so far this season with the club desperate to move on from the woes of last season that saw them finish a stunning eighth in the table as they travel to Hellas Verona this Sunday.
The Bergamo side were dreadful last time around. It was the first time Atalanta have missed out on the Champions League in five seasons and with a gap of 11 points on fourth-placed Juventus in 2021/22, they have a lot to prove on this campaign.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men kicked things off with a win over Sampdoria that saw former Everton man, Ademola Lookman, bag a goal on his Serie A debut, with Rafel Toloi netting the opening goal.
A 1-1 draw with champions AC Milan was something to shout about soon after the win, but with Ruslan Malinovskyi giving Atalanta the lead, fans will be disappointed with a draw in the end.
Verona, however, are in tatters right now. An upset against Bari in the Coppa Italia saw the Serie B side run riot in a 4-1 win on Verona’s turf, and they opened up their Serie A campaign with a 5-2 loss at home to Napoli where they were blown away.
On top of this, they drew with strugglers Bologna last time out as Thomas Henry scored the an equaliser for Verona. With this in mind, Atalanta should end up strolling to a victory here, especially given how Verona have conceded nine goals at home already.
