Inter Milan vs Juventus match preview

There was nothing to separate these two great rivals in Turin 22 days ago, but there must be a winner this time.

Juventus had seemingly snatched a first leg advantage when, with seven minutes to play, Juan Cuadrado lashed home the opener.

But, deep into stoppage time, Davide Massa awarded Inter a penalty, which Romelu Lukaku cooly converted.

This dramatic moment was completely overshadowed by the unacceptable racial abuse hurled Lukaku’s way from the stands, with Lukaku, Samir Handanovič and Cuadrado all sent off in the aftermath.

So, the second leg of this Derby d’Italia tie will be hotly-contested and certainly is not to be missed.

Inter are seeking to retain the Coppa Italia, having beaten Juve 4-2 after extra time at Stadio Olimpico 11 months ago.

Despite this, Simone Inzaghi’s side are down in sixth place in Serie A, with the weekend 3-0 win at Empoli leaving them five points below Juve.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men meanwhile moved from seventh all the way up to third last week after their 15-point deduction was overturned, for now.

Although, la Vecchia Signora’s top four hopes did suffer a blow on Sunday night, beaten 1-0 by run-away league-leaders Napoli in the last minute.

Like their hosts, I Bianconeri will continue to be busy with European commitments, set to face Sevilla in the Europa League semi-finals.

In Coppa Italia terms, Juventus are the competition’s most-successful club, featuring in seven of the last eight finals, winning five of them.

So, who will prevail at San Siro and meet Fiorentina in Rome on 24 May?
