Two giants of Italian football will meet this weekend in Serie A with both Lazio and Inter Milan currently unbeaten after two games as the 2020/21 champions look to now make it 13 games unbeaten in the Italian top flight.
Inter have barely taken their foot off the gas in the last few months, despite losing their Serie A crown to their city rivals, AC Milan, last season. Victories towards the end of the campaign against the likes of Juventus and a 0-0 draw with Milan ensured they finished second in the league last campaign by just two points and five ahead of third-placed Napoli.
Now, Simeone Inzaghi’s side have edged past Lecce on the opening day and comfortably beaten Spezia 3-0. The trip to Lecce saw the return of Romelu Lukaku, who took just two minutes to get a goal on his second Inter debut which now means the Belgian has scored 65 goals in 97 appearances for Inter.
Lukaku was ineffective against Spezia, but with Lautaro Martinez scoring his first goal of the season alongside goals from Joaquin Correa and Hakan Calhanoglu, the 19-time champions of Italy sit behind first-placed Napoli only on goal difference early on.
As for Lazio, a narrow win over Bologna got their season off to the perfect start, as Ciro Immobile continued to prove his worth as one of Serie A’s top strikers with the winning goal. Luis Maximiano was sent off that day and remains unavailable.
The Rome side then met with Torino soon after and played out a lacklustre 0-0 draw where only three shots between the two sides hit the target. Lazio are going to need to significantly improve on that display if they are to beat Inter here, but it does look as if Inzaghi’s side are going to be the team to beat once again in Italy.
