Lazio will be eyeing up a spot in the top two this weekend when they play hosts to Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico after the club’s best win of the season last time out that has now moved Maurizio Sarri’s men into third and narrowly behind AC Milan.
Lazio ran riot in Rome against Milan last weekend in a 4-0 demolition over the champions. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic got the ball rolling with a goal after four minutes, before Mattia Zaccagni, Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson all scored a goal each.
Sarri’s men are in third now and above Inter Milan on goals difference but sit behind the side they just smashed 4-0 by one point. Despite the excellent form recently, the gap is still 13 points on Napoli and a title charge is unlikely.
As for Fiorentina, they have moved back into the bottom half of the table after two losses in a row in Serie A. Roma eased to a 2-0 win two weeks ago, as the Florence outfit lost 1-0 at home to Torino last weekend.
Like Lazio, however, they are into the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia by beating Sampdoria earlier in Janauary. Fiorentina will now meet with Torino on Wednesday in that competition.
