The champions are back in action this weekend as they look to give their weak title defence another shot against Sassuolo at the San Siro with the away side still hovering just above the relegation zone after a terrible run of form.
It hasn’t really been a bad season for Milan in terms of their points tally, but they have to deal with the record-breaking form of Napoli in terms of defending their Serie A title. The club are still in second but remain 12 points behind Napoli with just 11 wins from 19 games.
Milan have been in terrible form since the World Cup and it has all but ended any hope this season. In fact, from the six games since the finals in Qatar, the only win has come in a 2-1 victory over Salernitana away from home.
A 2-2 draw with Roma and Lecce came soon after, while they also lost to Torino in the Coppa Italia round of 16 two weeks ago. Worse yet, they lost to Inter Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana 3-0 before a 4-0 hammering in Rome to Lazio.
As for Sassuolo, they are winless since action in Italy resumed and they now sit just five above Hellas Verona in the drop zone.
