Match preview
The unbeaten league leaders will step out at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium two more times before the World Cup break at the end of this week with Luciano Spalletti’s side having a great chance to continue their unbeaten run beforehand against Empoli.
Only Liverpool have been able to stop Napoli this season, as they lost to the Reds 2-0 at Anfield this time last week. However, with a stunning 2-1 win from behind against fellow title rivals, Atalanta, the club have now kept up their six-point gap on champions AC Milan and have won 11 of their 13 games so far. In fact, with an unbeaten record in the league and 32 goals and just 10 conceded, only Paris Saint-Germain can boast a better record than them across the top five leagues on the domestic front.
Napoli also managed to beat Sassuolo two weeks back when Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick, and with his goal against Atalanta on Saturday, the striker is now the leading goalscorer in Serie A with eight goals already.
As for Empoli, they returned to the win column after losing to Juventus and Atalanta where they conceded six goals and scored none of their own. They did so by narrowly edging past Sassuolo, and Paolo Zanetti’s men are now in 14th in the league.
Despite the slight turnaround in form, no side has been able to beat Napoli this campaign and it’s doubtful we’ll see Empoli be the first team in Italy to do so.
