Match preview

The league leaders will be aiming to remain unbeaten ahead of the World Cup break as Napoli play hosts to Udinese at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Saturday with the away side plummeting into eighth after a poor run of form.

Udinese were one of the shock outfits of the season across Europe up until around a month ago. The club registered sensational victories over the likes of Roma and Inter Milan but they have now failed to win any of their past seven games in all competitions.

Worryingly, this has seen them draw to three relegation-fighting sides, as Lecce and Spezia drew with them 1-1, not long after the winless Cremonese drew 0-0 with the Udine side. Furthermore, a loss to 15th-placed Monza in the Coppa Italia a month ago means they are out of that competition too.

As for Napoli, only Liverpool have beaten them in all competitions so far this season, and off the back of beating Empoli 2-0 and Atalanta 2-1, they are the clear favourties to win Serie A now. What’s more, a gap of eight points has now been created on the champions AC Milan with Napoli winning 12 of their 14 games so far, which also includes a victory over Milan at the San Siro.

It should be another routine victory for the Naples team, as they likely pause for the World Cup in unbeaten form in Serie A.
